Interviewing soon? In need of workplace attire for an internship or job? UW-Seattle students can visit the Career & Internship Center (C&IC) to visit our permanent Career Closet, stocked with free, gently-used, workplace attire.

Please know that this service is only available to current, matriculated, degree-seeking undergraduate & graduate students at UW-Seattle. Students in certificate programs and alumni of any certificate or degree program are not eligible for access to the Husky Career Closet.

There may be office closures or limited hours, please see the yellow banner located at the very top of our website for notices.

The Items:

  • Gently-used clothing items have been donated by UW staff, alumni, faculty, and employer supporters
  • We cannot guarantee that clothing has been washed or dry-cleaned prior to donation, or that small imperfections don’t exist
  • The C&IC has intentionally procured a variety of items in a wide range of sizes and styles (while supplies last)
  • Items include: Blazers, sweaters, blouses, shirts, dress pants, dresses, skirts, ties, belts, shoes, bags, and more
  • View our Style Guide for ideas on how to select items

The Closet:

  • There are two rooms available, each with different styles, types, and sizes of clothing
    • Students have private access to both rooms during their appointment
    • These rooms can also be used as changing rooms
  • Visits are generally about 35 minutes long for student visitors

Operating Hours for Student Visitors

  • Monday – Friday, 11:30am – 3:30pm by drop-in. There may be office closures or limited hours, please see the yellow banner located at the very top of our website for notices.
  • Please note, during normal operating hours, we will allow only one person to shop the closet at a time so a wait-time may exist

Accessing the Closet & Checking-In

  • To access the Husky Career Closet, visit the Career & Internship Center in Mary Gates Hall, Room 134 during the Closet’s operating hours and approach a front desk staff member and ask if you could check-in for the ‘Husky Career Closet’
  • Once a front desk staff member helps you check-in, they will hand you a ‘visit sheet’ and walk you to the Husky Career Closet

Closet Expectations & Item Limits

  • All items are FREE and available for students to KEEP. However, returns are highly encouraged, especially for sought after items such as blazers
  • Please know that there is a limit on # of items you can take per quarter and if you previously visited the closet, upon check-in, front desk staff will indicate on the Closet’s ‘visit sheet’ what items you already selected that quarter
    • Per quarter, students have the opportunity to take one full outfit + accessories (ties, belts, shoes, etc.)
    • At the end of a Husky Career Closet visit, staff will take note of which items you selected
    • Exchanges or returns with the expectation of an exchange are not permitted. Once an item’s limit has been met, students are no longer allowed to take another of the same item or swap the item for that quarter.
  • Alumni are not eligible for this service. To view all alumni services, visit our Recent Graduates & Alumni page.

Click Here to Submit a Monetary Donation to the Husky Career Closet. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated because they help us purchase specific items, styles, and sizes to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our shoppers. We shop at discount retailers such as Goodwill, Ross, & Target.

We also accept donations of gently-used professional clothing. Here are a few insights to help you make the greatest impact.

  • We always need men’s clothing, shoes, belts, and ties.
  • Our most needed sizes are 0-6, XS, Small, 30, and 32 for all clothing types and styles. Though we accept all sizes for donations!
  • Students want items that align with current trends for young adults. This means minimal patterns and an emphasis on neutrals.
  • Most need items that are slightly dressier and more modest than what they might have in their home closets (no denim, flannel, or athleisure please!).
  • Overly formal or dressy items do not attract much interest (presumably since the PNW is fairly casual).
  • It’s incredibly helpful to have all clothing washed or wrinkle free if possible as we do not have the means or facilities to prep clothing to be ‘ready-to-wear’ for students.

If you have items that don’t align, we kindly request that you consider donating to an option such as Goodwill, Salvation Army, Value Village, St Vincent de Paul, etc.  Though we sincerely appreciate you thinking of Huskies first, we don’t have the staffing or space to accommodate donations that may not work for our students.

Location & Hours

If your items align with what students are seeking, we welcome your donations between 9:00 and 4:00, Monday – Friday, in room 134 of Mary Gates Hall on the UW-Seattle campus.  We encourage you to check our the very top of our website for any closures or adjusted hours prior to visiting or email askcic@uw.edu to confirm our hours on a given day.

How Drop-Offs Work:

  • We ask interested donors to self-park on campus then transport their items from their parking location to our office in Mary Gates Hall.
  • Our team unfortunately does not have the capacity to offer or provide pickups, even meeting donors on campus at their vehicle to transport items.
  • Due to these limitations, we generally recommend using large and/or sturdy bags (consider a suitcase) to transport items. Or, if you are in need of a cart, our office can loan a flatbed cart for use to transport items. To use our cart, simply park, visit our office for cart pick up, then travel back to your vehicle.

Parking Information for Donation Drop-Offs:

We recommend folks park in a Loading Zone parking space which allow up to 30-minutes of free parking. While there are various loading zones for drop-offs and deliveries on campus, we recommend the C9 parking lot as they have more than one loading/unloading parking spaces available and are fairly close to Mary Gates Hall.

Here are a few helpful UW Transportation webpages with additional information and gatehouse and parking lot maps:

The best way to get to the C9 lot or ask about other parking alternatives is to visit the west gatehouse on 15th Avenue NE and Stevens Way. We recommend looking at the UW Transportation’s gatehouse page for additional information and directions.

Limitations for C&IC Support in Receiving Donations:

  • As mentioned under ‘How Drop-Offs Work,’ our team is unable to provide support in meeting donors at their vehicles and transporting items.
  • We also unfortunately do not have the staffing to accommodate pickups on or off the UW Seattle campus. Nor are we able to provide pre-paid shipping labeled for items to be sent via delivery.
  • We also do not have the space or staff to accommodate large sorting processes and as such we highly recommend only providing items that we’ve identified as best aligning for students. You can find our guidelines under ‘Want to support the Husky Career Closet?’

We welcome you to seek out alternative means of donations that best suit your needs if visiting the Seattle campus is not accessible, including donating to Goodwill, Salvation Army, Value Village, St Vincent de Paul, etc.
