Mock Interview Rubric
Many people find interviews to be a combination of scary, exciting, intimidating, and exhilarating. But one thing is for sure: interviewing at least once is required to gain access to nearly any opportunity. That’s why we developed resources to help build your competence and confidence for a wide range of interview questions, including this Mock Interview Rubric.
This checklist covers the following interview competencies:
Intentionality, Readiness, and Work Ethic
During the in-person interview, the candidate:
- Conveyed enthusiasm for the opportunity
- Wore attire that demonstrated an understanding of workplace expectations
- Was on time for interview
- Provided a custom greeting
During the virtual interview, the candidate also:
- Limited background noise and distractions
- Ensured their technology was functional
Communication (Oral, Written, and Non-Verbal)
To demonstrate strong communication skills, the candidate:
- Conveyed thorough and clear responses
- Used an appropriate pace of speech
- Had a copy of their resume readily available
- Faced the interviewer(s), as able
- Remained engaged by way of body language throughout
- Included specific examples in their responses
- Identified their own strengths and weaknesses, and a plan for improving in areas of growth
- Utilized an appropriate amount of silence
Content Knowledge (Position, Organization, and Self)
To show self-awareness and knowledge of the organization, the candidate:
- Demonstrated understanding of the role
- Proved their ability to embody the key skills necessary to do the role
- Kept the focus on what is part of their candidacy as opposed to what is not
- Conveyed an accurate understanding of the values of the organization
- Asked questions that were not easily resolved by visiting the organization’s website
