Global Mentorship Initiative

UW has partnered with Global Mentorship Initiative (GMI) to offer a special career development opportunity for students who are about to graduate or have recently graduated. Through this partnership, you will be matched with a mentor who will help you prepare for your first job after graduation.

GMI is a global non-profit organization that provides career-readiness mentorship to students around the world. The mentorship consists of 10 guided online sessions with your mentor. During the mentorship, they will help you:

  • Build a strong resume or CV tailored to your career goals
  • Develop your professional network and online presence, including LinkedIn
  • Create a clear career plan and set achievable goals using SMART frameworks
  • Strengthen professional and communication skills for the workplace
  • Prepare for job interviews with confidence through guided practice
  • Learn effective job search strategies to identify and pursue opportunities
  • Understand how to succeed in the workplace and distinguish yourself globally

GMI mentors are experienced professionals and leaders in their areas of expertise. They understand what skills make a difference for early career professionals and they are passionate about helping the next generation succeed.

Eligibility and requirements:

  • First-generation college student or receives/received educational financial aid
  • 18 years or older at time of application
  • Will complete degree or certificate within two years or has completed a degree or certificate within the last two years and is still searching for first career job
  • Can commit to actively engage in all 10 one-hour virtual sessions
