Student Organizations

(A)  Service: We are driven to lead and serve in projects that directly benefit the health, well-being, and visibility of LGBTQIA communities throughout WWAMI region.

(B)  Education: Within the UW School of Medicine, we are committed to cultivating an informed perspective and understanding of the unique characteristics of the LGBTQIA community amongst our peers, faculty, and staff. This includes, but is not limited to, sexual practices, social and family structures, and the unique healthcare needs that reflect the vast diversity of our members. We accomplish this through participation in educational events as part of the formal curriculum, organized in collaboration with other student groups, and planned specifically by QMed.

(C)  Support: We provide a supportive community for queer students and allies. This network is strengthened by regular board meetings, social events (with other diversity organizations associated with the School of Medicine), and maintaining communication with an established network of LGBTQIA residents and physicians. In addition, we mentor students who are interested in the health professions by providing insight on the application process, interviewing, and thriving as future LGBTQIA medical professionals.

The Division of Student Life acknowledges the Coast Salish people of this land, the land which touches the shared waters of all tribes and bands within the Suquamish, Tulalip, and Muckleshoot Nations. Student Life is committed to developing and maintaining an inclusive climate that honors the diverse array of students, faculty, and staff. We strive to provide pathways for success and to purposefully confront and dismantle existing physical, social, and psychological barriers for minoritized students and communities. We engage in this work while learning and demonstrating cultural humility.
