The Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering is seeking an hourly undergraduate student lab assistant (SLA) to assist with on-site technical and customer support. This includes but is not limited to: answering general questions, responding to IT service requests, escalating IT issues to appropriate Allen School technical staff, and assisting with various routine IT tasks within the Allen School.
Candidates should be resourceful, reliable, engaged, and ready to work in a fun, dynamic technical environment. Candidates should be able to work a minimum of 10 hours/week during regular quarters, ideally with a minimum shift of 2 hours. Looking for students with a strong interest in computing and some previous PC tech experience.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a first point of contact in the Allen School by providing excellent customer service in navigating the Allen School’s services and programs.
Duties includes but are not limited to:
● Answering questions in a professional manner at one of two help desks (on-site in the Allen School
buildings)
● Providing technical support to Allen School Faculty, Staff, and Students via phone, email or in person
(involving software, hardware, and network issues)
● Maintaining various Allen School resources (e.g. adding toner to printers, organizing cables, sorting e-
waste, imaging loaner equipment, testing AV in various meeting rooms)
● Keeping Allen School asset-tracking information up-to-date
● Other special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Communication skills; oral and written English
Competency in working with diverse populations
Problem-solving and decision-making skills
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Desirable Skills
Experience working with Windows, Mac OS, and Linux
Pattern of excellent attendance and punctuality in prior positions
Excellent attention to detail
