UW Bothell offers student employment opportunities to help prepare students by providing practical work experience. Students are provided professional development and mentoring to develop skills to support post-graduation employment preparation and success.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Student Employee:
- Respond to and incorporate feedback from supervisor/advisor and peers
- Collaborate and coordinate with other SEA orgs and campus partners
- Participate in budget tracking and co-managing organization’s finances
- Evaluate and improve the effectiveness of your work
- Develop, distribute, and analyze assessments for programs, events, and initiatives
- Assist with writing and presenting Services and Activities Fee (SAF) and Student Technology Fee (STF) budget proposals
- Assist with projects and tasks assigned by supervisor
Student Leader:
- Contribute respectfully to our diverse and inclusive work environment at UWB and the Student Engagement & Activities (SEA) department
- Contribute to the SEA mission
- Perform outreach to students about SEA programs, events, and services to promote student involvement and provide current information about campus resources
- Maintain shared work spaces with other student leaders, incl. supplies management, rotating cleaning and organizational duties, prompt reporting of issues, and more
- Maintain active, timely communication with supervisor and team
- Connect with the UW Bothell student body to find out what different students want and/or need
- Maintain documents and folders in a shared digital filing system, on a student engagement platform, social media, and other technology
- Perform clerical duties including documenting and updating processes, data entry, maintaining work calendars, and scheduling meetings
- Support and staff SEA events and operations as needed. This includes but is not limited to: New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, SEA org support, and large scale campus events
- Represent the SEA department at events and as requested by supervisor
Support the recruitment of future student leaders during the annual hiring cycle (spring quarter)
Position Overview:
The UWave Program Director drives the content and radio programming of UWave Radio. Daily responsibilities include: overseeing diverse creative content curation (music, podcasts, live shows, PSAs, promotions, on-air and recorded content), planning and scheduling the daily UWave programming, managing the content archives, monitoring and analyzing audience feedback, ratings, and other analytics to ensure UWave meets current trends and needs of UWB community, and supporting both aspiring and experienced content creators (radio shows, musicians, podcast hosts, etc.) in the development and publication of their content.
This position works closely with the UWave Station Manager and Studio Engineer to make decisions on content to stream and/or publish through the UWave platforms (i.e., livestream, Mix Clound, SoundCloud), to update and implement studio and technology procedures, and to strategically enhance UWave Radio services and programming.
This position gets hands-on experience in radio broadcasting, creative content curation, radio program management, technical and administrative operations, funding requests and purchasing, and strategic planning. Additionally, the Program Director gains valuable skills in communication, collaboration, mentorship, and decision-making, contributing to the overall development and impact of UWave Radio within the UW Bothell community.
The UWave Program Director gains valuable leadership experience in working with Student Media team members, content creators, and campus partners. The Program Director is part of the Student Media team and actively supports general Student Media marketing, recruitment/outreach, engagement, and events throughout the year.
About UWave Radio:
As part of the UWB Student Media team under Student Engagement & Activities (SEA), the UWave Radio is the UWB’s only student-run radio station with a 24/7 livestream. Through UWave, student staff receive hands-on experience and training consistent with broadcast radio industry standards, software, hardware, and practices. They train and support other students (volunteers, content creators) on how to use UWave’s studio equipment. Students learn, create, and showcase their media work, host shows, and produce podcasts published on our livestream.
UWave offers students a creative outlet through radio to voice ideas, share information, perspectives, and prompt dialogue. Students gain skills in: public speaking, event planning, leadership skills, radio hosting, podcasting, communication techniques, and get to work with equipment/technology.
Student work created as part of Student Media is professionally produced and circulated throughout the UW Bothell community.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Radio Content Management & Programming (30%)
- Manage the content being published, produced, and played on the UWave stream and platforms (website, music, podcasts, live shows, PSAs, promotions, on-air and recorded)
- Work with students and groups to produce recurring radio shows or podcasts
- Curate diverse playlists and solicit diverse content from creators to publish on UWave platforms (livestream, SoundCloud, MixCloud, website, etc.)
- Create, update, and publish the daily livestream programming schedule
- Update and maintain UWave archives (music, playlists, PSAs, podcasts)
- Monitor, analyze, and provide monthly reports on audience feedback, ratings, etc.
Collaboration & Communication (20%)
- In consultation with the rest of the UWave team, make decisions on daily, weekly, and quarterly content published to shape UWave radio programming
- Review, approve, and follow up with contributors on next steps for submitted content proposals (via UWave Request Form)
- Work with UWave Station Manager to adjust and administer agreement forms and studio/building access for programmers (i.e., podcasters, interviewers/ees, on-air show hosts)
- Participate in weekly one-on-one meetings with advisor and UWave teammates.
- Serve as a liaison between student programmers and the UWave staff; the primary point-of-contact and support for radio show hosts, podcasters, and other content creators, including, but not limited to: CELR classes
- Collaborate with Student Media Marketing & Design team and content creators to develop cover art, marketing graphics, and promotional tactics for their published content.
General UWave Operations & Special Projects (20%)
- Assist in fulfilling event DJ, PSA, recording, and other requests for UWave, as assigned by UWave Station Manager.
- Work closely with the Studio Engineer to maintain correct studio technology procedures.
- Work closely with the Station Manager to confirm and request music and stream purchases
- In the absence of the Station Manager, serve in the Station Manager role and represent UWave Radio in key projects, meetings, and committees
- Research new opportunities to expand UWave programming and content diversity, such as attending workshops, networking with external radio stations, conducting surveys to identify trends, best practices, and UWB campus needs and interests.
- Work on special projects, as assigned and needed, to further expand and enhance UWave Radio and Student Media programming.
Radio Broadcasting Ethics, Regulations, & Policies (15%):
- Uphold broadcasting and radio ethics and standards in all broadcasts and operations
- Ensures the UWave Radio station follows relevant regulations and guidelines including state law and university policy, as well as federal laws including those related to radio broadcasting and copyright usage
- Collaborate with the faculty advisors and Studio Engineer when issues regarding broadcasting, technology, and radio ethics arises
- Collaborate with the faculty advisors and Studio Engineer to adjust the UWave Handbook when necessary
- Enforce UWave Radio’s Code of Conduct and studio policies with all participating student members, studio users, volunteers/contributors, and content published through UWave
General Student Media Programming, Engagement, & Collaboration (15%):
- Partner with UWave Station Manager and other Student Media team members (Clamor and Husky Herald) on event-planning, general Student Media programming, budget requests, and outreach/marketing and student engagement responsibilities

Pay Rate:
- $19.97 per hour
- Pay rate anticipated to increase January 1st, 2025 by TBD amount
Time Commitments:
- During the academic year, maintain approx. 12-15 hours a week, inclusive of all meetings, during business hours
- Business hours are defined as 9:00am – 6:30pm PST, Monday – Friday
- Occasional late night or weekend hours for special events may occur
- Hours during school breaks – subject to approval by supervisor/advisor(s)
- Attend weekly team meetings:
- Student Media: 1 hr, time varies
- Attend weekly or bi-weekly meeting with supervisor, individual team members, project teams, and advisors, 30-60 min
- Scheduled around your availability with priority for academic class times
- Attend quarterly SEA and Student Media job trainings
- Spring Student Media Training: Incoming team training, April 1st through June 30th (specific dates and hours tbd)
- Chairs and returners only: During the summer, work roughly 5-10 hours a week to prepare and facilitate training sessions for new student leaders and prepare for fall quarter; as determined by supervisor
Working Environment:

- In-person and on-campus (Husky Hall, Activities & Recreation Center)
- Occasional work via virtual setting via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Discord and other platforms, as needed
- Lifting boxes, supplies, and equipment up to 20lbs or heavier
- Work is completed in various set-ups (small-enclosed studio, open-concept Title IX course about preventing and responding to sex-and gender-based violence and harassment.
Qualifications
In order to be eligible for this position, applicants must be:
- Committed to working in a culturally diverse environment
- Interested in contributing to the mission and goals of Student Engagement & Activities (SEA) and UWB
- A matriculated University of Washington Bothell student
- Able to commit for the entire academic year, incl. fall, winter, and spring quarters; some summer work may apply
- Enrolled in at least 6 credits as an undergraduate student or at least 4 credits as a graduate student each quarter of employment
- Able to work in person (percentage of in-person work depends on position)
- Able to participate in quarterly trainings – dates listed below (subject to change):
- Fall: September 4-30th, 2024 (this includes residential move in assistance and welcome events)
- Winter: Friday, January 3rd, 2025
- Spring: March 28th, 2025
- Additional trainings, as determined by supervisor
In good standing with UWB. Good standing is defined as:
- Must have a 2.5 cumulative and quarterly GPA
- Must be in good judicial standing (student conduct)

Preferred Qualifications:

- Basic working knowledge of radio/audio equipment and similar technology
- Familiarity with sound engineering and broadcasting
- Basic working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e., InDesign) and Canva
- Experience successfully working in diverse teams and environments
- Intermediate presentation skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and Excel
- Past involvement with Student Media or Student Engagement & Activities (i.e., Husky Herald reporter, Open Mic Night performer, CELR student, event volunteer, club officer)
