Duties & Responsibilities:
Student Employee:
- Respond to and incorporate feedback from supervisor/advisor and peers
- Collaborate and coordinate with other SEA orgs and campus partners
- Participate in budget tracking and co-managing organization’s finances
- Evaluate and improve the effectiveness of your work
- Develop, distribute, and analyze assessments for programs, events, and initiatives
- Assist with writing and presenting Services and Activities Fee (SAF) and Student Technology Fee (STF) budget proposals
- Assist with projects and tasks assigned by supervisor
Student Leader:
- Contribute respectfully to our diverse and inclusive work environment at UWB and the Student Engagement & Activities (SEA) department
- Contribute to the SEA mission
- Perform outreach to students about SEA programs, events, and services to promote student involvement and provide current information about campus resources
- Maintain shared work spaces with other student leaders, incl. supplies management, rotating cleaning and organizational duties, prompt reporting of issues, and more
- Maintain active, timely communication with supervisor and team
- Connect with the UW Bothell student body to find out what different students want and/or need
- Maintain documents and folders in a shared digital filing system, on a student engagement platform, social media, and other technology
- Perform clerical duties including documenting and updating processes, data entry, maintaining work calendars, and scheduling meetings
- Support and staff SEA events and operations as needed. This includes but is not limited to: New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, SEA org support, and large scale campus events
- Represent the SEA department at events and as requested by supervisor
Support the recruitment of future student leaders during the annual hiring cycle (spring quarter)
Position Description & Educational Benefits:
The Student Marketing & Engagement Coordinator oversees the UWB Student Media brand to increase engagement, contributions, and participation with UWave Radio, the Husky Herald, and Clamor Literary & Arts Journal. They also lead the student Marketing & Design team under Student Media to provide strategic marketing consulting and graphic design services for UWB students and student-serving groups on-campus. This role works closely with two student Media, Marketing, and Graphic Designers to review and fulfill various design and promotional media requests, including, but not limited to: event posters, social media graphics, and videos.
The Marketing & Engagement Coordinator serves as Student Media’s primary contact and support for student volunteers, contributors, and audiences (readers, viewers, listeners). This role collaborates with the rest of Student Media to develop and execute plans for marketing, contributor outreach, partnerships, and recruitment.
They interact with and promote Student Media’s unique offerings to the greater UWB community. They also lead event planning for the annual Student Media Showcase and Student Media info sessions.
The position gains valuable skills in: peer leadership, marketing, communications, project management, outreach/recruitment, volunteer engagement, event planning, and working with diverse teams.
About UWB Student Media:
Student Media provides platforms for student creativity, underrepresented voices, community engagement, music, current events, and arts. We are the UWB’s student radio station (UWave Radio), literary and arts journal (Clamor), and student-led marketing and design hub (Marketing & Design). and student-led marketing and design hub (Marketing & Design). We provide UWB students with the opportunities and resources to be extraordinary, to connect with campus community, to produce professional-grade media content (podcasts, articles, radio shows, art, poetry), and to gain hands-on knowledge and experiences, preparing for careers in the media, radio broadcasting, literary, arts, design, and creative communications fields.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Student Media Branding & Promotions (30%):
- Lead execution of marketing and engagement plans for UWB Student Media, as co-developed with team members
- Plan and facilitate marketing and tabling activities throughout the year
- Oversee graphics design and poster needs on behalf of Student Media sub-org teams
- Develop social media content and schedule postings related to Student Media promotional needs
- Deliver Student Media info sessions and presentations to classes, student clubs, and at campus-wide events
- Respond to all emails and other communications from prospective contributors, volunteers, partners, etc.
- Assist with conducting assessment of Student Media engagement and marketing (event attendance numbers, volunteer feedback surveys) and repor out to team, funding committees, supervisor, partners, etc.
- Coordinate regular Student Media inventory of supplies and submit purchase requests, as needed
- Manage organization and space bookings for the Student Media Classroom/Office space (Husky Hall 1210)
Marketing & Design Services (30%):
- Design and oversee marketing/design request forms, submissions, and processes
- Delegate and track progress of graphic design, media, and other marketing projects to Media, Marketing, & Designers (MMGDs)
- Provide strategic marketing and outreach planning consultation services to on-campus student or student-serving groups such as clubs and departments (I.e., help develop event marketing plans, direct to marketing and design resources on-campus)
- Conduct meetings and communications with prospective and current clients (student clubs, departments) to ensure completion of requested projects and evaluation of the quality of services provided
- Review and provide feedback on MMGD design work prior to delivering to clients
- Develop and regularly update Student Marketing & Design Handbook and policies in coordination with supervisor, faculty advisor(s), and MMGDs
Recruitment, Leadership & Training (20%):
- Develop contributor, volunteer, and SM participant recruitment plans with teammates
- Support the recruitment and training of incoming Student Media Marketing & Design team, along with other Student Media staff for the following year
- Schedule and lead weekly/bi-weekly Student Media Marketing & Outreach planning meetings with The Husky Herald Editor-in-Chief, UWave Station Manager, and Clamor Coordinator, along with other SM team members and faculty/staff advisor(s), as needed
Programming, Engagement & Collaboration (20%):
- Lead planning, facilitation, and evaluation of annual Student Media Showcase, info sessions, volunteer workshops, etc.
- Partner with other Student Media Organizations (Clamor, Husky Herald, UWave Radio) on event-planning, general Student Media programming, budget requests, and outreach/marketing and student engagement
- Oversee the coordination and communication for quarterly service-learning and similar engagement opportunities, including Community Engaged Learning and Research (CELR), in collaboration with Student Media teammates, supervisor, Faculty Advisor(s), and faculty partners
- Seek out opportunities for and maintain partnerships with campus community groups (student clubs, SEA student orgs, departments, campus events teams)
- Participate in weekly Student Media team meetings and other major Student Media-specific planning and activities
Pay Rate:
- $19.97 per hour
- Pay rate anticipated to increase January 1st, 2025 by TBD amount
Employment Period
September 4th, 2023 – June 30th, 2024
We will make every effort to provide a reliable student employment experience. However, due to COVID-19, there is some uncertainty in university operations. We are anticipating that training will take place on site at UWB, unless public health and university policy indicates otherwise. Qualifications
In order to be eligible for this position, applicants must be:
- Committed to working in a culturally diverse environment
- Interested in contributing to the mission and goals of Student Engagement & Activities (SEA) and UWB
- A matriculated University of Washington Bothell student
- Able to commit for the entire academic year, incl. fall, winter, and spring quarters
- Enrolled in at least 6 credits as an undergraduate student or at least 4 credits as a graduate student each quarter of employment
- Able to work in person (percentage of in-person work depends on position)
- Able to participate in quarterly trainings – dates listed below (subject to change):
- Fall: September 4-30th, 2024 (this includes residential move in assistance and welcome events)
- Winter: Friday, January 3rd, 2025
- Spring: March 28th, 2025
- Additional trainings, as determined by supervisor
In good standing with UWB. Good standing is defined as:
- Must have a 2.5 cumulative and quarterly GPA
- Must be in good judicial standing (student conduct)
