UNIDOSUS POLICY AND ADVOCACY INTERNSHIP – Summer 2024
Overview
UnidosUS offers paid internships during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Through our Policy and Advocacy Internship, students gain the opportunity to work alongside policy experts across a range of issue areas. Throughout the program, interns have the chance to deeply engage in policy research, writing, advocacy, and attend a variety of events.
Our Policy and Advocacy Internship provides students and graduates with a variety of learning experiences in a range of policy issues including health, early childhood education, higher education, states-based education, and the economy. We seek to ensure that interns who successfully complete our program gain a deeper understanding of how research and advocacy initiatives shape policies that impact the Latino community. UnidosUS’s Policy and Advocacy Internship emphasizes strong organizational and interpersonal skills, analytical skills, experience in policy analysis, and research and writing skills. In addition to working with our teams, we strive to offer interns with an environment that is conducive to the intern’s goals and provides a variety of professional development and networking opportunities.
Responsibilities
Selected candidates will be working with a specific issue team (health, early childhood education, higher education, states-based education, or the economy) within the UnidosUS Policy and Advocacy component. Interns will conduct research, draft deliverables, and work directly with the team in various capacities. Previous interns have conducted literature reviews, supported staff with research for reports, tracked legislation, developed fact sheets, and authored blog posts based on their policy interests.
The right candidate should be passionate about learning and advancing equity on behalf of the Latino community, have the ability to work within a team, be a self-starter and active communicator, be able to work within tight deadlines, and be interested in the intersections of policy. Candidates familiar with statistical software programming such as R or STATA are a plus. While interns work directly with their issue teams, there are also opportunities to learn from and be exposed to a wide range of issues addressed by UnidosUS.
Eligibility
Applicants must be currently enrolled as undergraduate or graduate students. Undergraduates, graduates, and recent graduates are all welcome to apply.
Our Summer 2024 internship offers students the opportunity to work part-time or full-time with full-time interns averaging 35 hours per week at $17.50 an hour (Washington, D.C. minimum wage). We also work with students who would like to receive credit hours.
In-person, hybrid, and remote positions are available. Our Washington, D.C., staff are currently coming into the office two times a week.
