Student Assistant
International Student Services
Responsibilities
· Assist with day-to-day operation of the International Student Health Insurance Plan (ISHIP) office as needed.
· Provide excellent student service at the front desk for drop-ins and callers.
· Assist students with basic questions on healthcare and medical insurance.
· Helping students search for and navigate resources on the ISHIP and LifeWise websites
· Refer students to appropriate campus resources.
· Refer students with complex cases to staff adviser.
· Perform project work as requested.
· This position will include a mixture of in-person and remote work, with frequent contact through email, phone, and video conferencing.
Required Qualifications
· Currently enrolled undergraduate student at the UW Seattle campus.
· Must have completed at least 30 credits of undergraduate coursework at the UW (Seattle campus) with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Preferred Qualifications
· Outstanding communication skills.
· Strong knowledge of programs and services at the UW and ability to provide information to international students.
· Ability to work independently in a very busy office with minimum supervision while understanding role within the team.
· Experience working with people from different cultures, non-native English speakers, and a strong interest in international education.
· Reliable, motivated self-starter with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy with a large volume of work.
· Excellent problem solving and multitasking skills, and ability to understand a large amount of nuanced information.
· Involvement with UW student clubs and/or organizations.
· Comfortable and skilled at using MS Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, databases, and other computer programs.
· Available to serve in the position for multiple quarters.
· Preferred candidates will be able to start in mid May/early June 2024 and work for at least one academic year.
Hours
· 15 hours per week, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Preference for candidate to have upcoming Autumn quarter availability from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 11:30am and some availability on Monday to Friday, for 1pm to 4pm shifts. Hours may be flexible depending on class schedule.

Administers the University’s F-1 and J-1 Student programs, and monitors University compliance with the federal immigration laws governing these programs and visa types related to study
Advises students of the restrictions imposed and benefits accorded by their immigration status
Assists international students in resolving academic, financial and personal difficulties in coordination with faculty, department advisers, and other University resources or community agencies
Conducts comprehensive new student orientation programs
Represents the University of Washington to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of State, U.S. and foreign embassies, and international sponsoring organizations
