The Occupational Health & Safety Unit of Los Angeles Metro’s Corporate Safety Department is interested in hiring a Safety Intern. This internship is suitable for third-and fourth-year college students or graduate level college students with foundational safety knowledge from education or certifications, who seek to gain practical work experience in the field of Occupational Safety and Health. This is an opportunity to assist Metro’s Corporate Safety Program and work with a team of experienced professionals on a daily basis, while you gain practical work experience in your field of study or academic discipling. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Participate in the development of safety training materials and assist in conducting educational sessions. • Aid in the inspection of facilities to ensure compliance with safety standards. •
Skills and Qualifications • Enrollment in an undergraduate program focused on Safety, Public Health, Environmental Science, or a related field. • Basic understanding of occupational health and safety principles and regulations. • Proof of current enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited college or university. • Completion of, or current enrollment in, safety certification programs or related courses. • The position is based in a typical office environment; however, occasional site visits to Metro facilities may be required, for which safety training will be provided. • Interns will be expected to comply with all safety guidelines and wear personal protective equipment as necessary when on site. This intern position works up to 29 hours per week on site at Metro’s downtown LA headquarters. Undergraduate Students – $17.43/hr. and a Metro pass Currently Enrolled Graduate Students – $19.99/hr. and limited benefits, including free Metro pass.
