Controls Engineer Intern
Dynamic Systems Technologies, inc. (DST) is seeking a qualified Controls Engineer Intern to join our group of skilled automation specialists in Olympia, WA. We are an independently-owned robotics and automation firm that has been serving customers across the USA and Canada, Mexico, China and Europe since 1992. We have worked with a variety of industries in manufacturing (aerospace, pulp & paper, food & beverage, lumber, glass, etc.).
Position Responsibilities:
Write/create automation programming code for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s).
Utilize CAD (AutoCAD, Solidworks or EPlan) to generate electrical schematics and related drawings.
Assist others in the electrical shop in assembling and wiring equipment previously designed by our engineering staff.
Become familiar with machine/robot best practices regarding control systems and machine safety thereby integrating into all projects
Program a variety of industrial robots for a specific task, first in a virtual environment in the office, and then by transferring that code from the virtual environment to the actual robot in our shop for verification and physical path adjustments, and ultimately at customers site in the field.
Participate in system installation of automation equipment as well as equipment “start-ups” whereby previously written code is verified and related testing (travel may be local or out-of-state)
Troubleshoot/debug a variety of project deliverables (code, schematics, calculations, etc.)
Maintain a “continuous growth” mindset to new automation technologies, control techniques, software, etc.
Efficiently manage control design projects with light oversight from engineering manager
Qualifications:
Experience using Roboguide, Octopuz OLRP, or equivalent robot programming software a plus
Experience with 3D and 2D CAD software (preferably Autodesk or Solidworks products)
Proficiency create/modifying industrial communication network (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, HART, SERCOS, serial, etc.)
Demonstrate strong organizational/project management skills
Experience with Rockwell Automation PLC/HMI platforms (Studio 5000, RSLinx, etc.)
Experience operating, programming, and tuning Allen Bradley PowerFlex drives
Experience in CIP motion control
Basic understanding of control theory (PID control, closed loop, etc.)
Basic understanding of introductory engineering concepts (physics, statics, dynamics, etc.)
Understanding of hydraulics/pneumatic fundamentals
Proficient communication skills (written and verbal)
Flexibility to excel in both independent and team work environments
Electrical shop experience is a plus including wire feed welders, portable plasma cutters, presses, etc.)
