Summary
The camp nurse is a seasonal, session-based member of the Camp Gallagher summer staff. During youth summer programs, the health care manager oversees the health and wellness of campers and staff.
Classification: Exempt 13(a)(3)
Compensation: $115 a day
Number of Days: 3-56 (position can be split across sessions)
Responsibilities:
- Provide health care to meet the individual needs of campers and staff by following health care policies and procedures, including keeping all medications used by campers and ensuring staff have a regulated location for medications according to American Camp Association standards
- Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and wellness needs of campers and staff including conducting regular inventory, submitting timely order requests, and attending to the cleanliness and organization of health hut
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to state and American Camp Association standards, including
- screening all campers and staff upon arrival to camp and upon return from overnight and verifying accuracy of health history and completion of health care authorization
- preparing and utilizing daily medical log for treatment and medications
- preparing and recording incident and accident reports
- keep and properly dispense all medications used by campers and ensure staff have a regulated location for medications according to ACA standards
- Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies, including
- preparing and distributing first aid kits throughout camp activity areas and out-of-camp trips
- ensuring supplies are re-stocked as needed
- Conduct an orientation rotation to ensure campers and staff know their role and access to health care and first aid
- Uphold Camp Gallagher mission and values, including demonstrating respect and proactive care for all campers, staff, visitors, the natural environment, equipment and facilities.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the start of the first youth session
- Possess the flexibility, emotional maturity, and communication skills to work and live in a rustic, communal setting
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse groups of people in alignment with Camp Gallagher’s values of inclusion and belonging
- Possess license as Registered Nurse
- Have or be able to obtain current CPR/AED & First Aid certification
- Have or be able to obtain current driver’s license
- Commitment to support Camp Gallagher’s mission
