Marie for Congress Democracy Summer 2024 Opportunity [due 4/12]

My name is Tyler Troelsen and I am the Campaign Assistant with Marie for Congress. As winter comes to a close and spring approaches, I am here reaching out about a special opportunity for young activists in the area. I am proud to announce that our campaign will be participating as a partner in the 2024 National Democracy Summer School! This one-of-a-kind Democratic Fellowship—founded by Congressman Jamie Raskin and expanded across the country in a historic partnership with the DCCC—is dedicated to recruiting thousands of high school and college-age students and training them as the next generation of Democratic political activists and leaders.

I actually am a Democracy Summer Alumni myself. I was a Fellow in 2021, the summer before my senior year of college. I cannot speak highly enough about this program based on the skills I learned and how it opened the doors that led me to pursue a career in Democratic organizing and politics.

As part of this educational and political initiative, our campaign is looking for dedicated high school and college students to join us here as WA-03 Democracy Summer Fellows! If there are any students or young activists at the University of Washington looking for a great summer job or internship, we would love them to join our team!

This six-week program will take place from Monday, June 24th to Friday, August 9th, and requires a commitment of 14 hours per week. Fellows will participate in exciting online seminars and a powerful curriculum designed by Congressman Raskin, while also organizing on the ground with our reelection campaign here in WA-03 as well as other candidates and initiatives. Fellows will receive a stipend of $500 for their hard work.

Throughout the academic portion, Fellows will learn from academic luminaries, inspiring political leaders, policy experts, issue advocates, and top community organizers from all across the country. Past Democracy Summer speakers have included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Professor Laurence Tribe, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Bennie Thompson, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and the late Rep. John Lewis.

Not to mention, Fellows will also learn state-of-the-art skills in phone banking, text banking, canvassing, online organizing, low-dollar fundraising, and voter registration—all the necessary ingredients for a thriving field operation!

You can click the link HERE and scroll down to find the application for our campaign. The priority deadline to apply is April 12th, 2024. If you know a student or young activist who may be interested in this life-changing and America-changing program, please let them know —they won’t want to miss out!
