Register for LABOR 480: Applied Research for the Labor Movement

LABOR 480, Spring Quarter:
The MyPlan link is here

LABOR 480 utilizes popular education techniques – we learn with and from each other. This is a project-based class. There is one independent project that focuses on unpacking power and accountability at a specific workplace/organization. The other is a collaborative project supporting a research issue affecting working people identified by a participating organization. In past classes, we’ve worked with the Washington State Labor Council (WSLC), SEIU Healthcare 1199NW, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), the Imagine Institute, and the Economic Opportunity Institute (EOI), among others.

Skills folks can anticipate developing or using include introductory financial and data analysis, the principles of community-based participatory action research (CBPAR), using public record requests and the Freedom of Information Action (FOIA), developing and analyzing surveys, and completing interviews. We will also learn from researchers, lawyers, and educators in the labor movement.
