3 *free* opportunities for American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) learners interested in pursuing medicine!

The Northwest Native American Center of Excellence (NNACoE) is pleased to announce 3 free opportunities below:

The RISE Summer Academy is a FREE six-week intensive program for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) learners that provides in-depth training and Indigenous learning opportunities to prepare scholars for the medical school application process.  

  • Summer Academy takes place at the WSU Spokane campus, through a partnership between the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine and the WSU Native American Health Sciences Center. 
  • Application opens on January 29th, 2024 & closes on April 5th, 2024 at 5pm PST – please reach out to a.bangayan-tielmann@wsu.edu with questions

The Wy’east Medicine Pathway is a FREE 10-month post-baccalaureate health education Pathway for AI/AN learners who are passionate about becoming physicians. We recruit nationwide and our scholars receive a monthly stipend throughout the 10-month Pathway.  

  • The Wy’east Pathway prepares learners for the rigors of medical school and provides cultural support and mentorship. 
  • Upon entry to Wy’east, scholars are conditionally accepted to their admitting medical school. Final acceptance is awarded upon satisfactory completion of the Pathway and meeting all final matriculation requirements of the admitting medical school.

The Huwighurruk Tribal Health Program is a FREE post-baccalaureate health education pathway designed to empower aspiring physicians with a focus on serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities and is based at Cal Poly Humboldt.

  • Huwighurruk scholars will be immersed in a culturally-focused framework intertwined with courses at Cal Poly Humboldt.
  • Huwighurruk students are accepted into UC Davis School of Medicine and the Tribal Health PRIME Pathway on upon meeting outlined conditions (see attachments).
  • Application opened January 4th, 2024 and closes May 3rd, 2024 – please reach out to tribalhealth@ucdavis.edu with questions.
