Description: Why might an MD/PhD program be a good choice for you? Through MD/PhD programs, students earn both an MD and a PhD, enabling them to practice medicine while performing research. For example, our program at the University of Washington is ideal for those interested in both caring for patients and engaging in research to improve health outcomes. Our students pursue a variety of exciting research topics, including stem cell biology, machine learning, cancer biology, and global health. Graduates from the UW MSTP have gone on to impactful careers in biomedical research, including leading their own research labs and founding biotech startups. As physicians with rigorous training in research, MD/PhD graduates are at the forefront of healthcare discovery and innovation.
