SCRI Summer Scholars Program call for applications

In partnership with the Center for Diversity and Health Equity, the Office for Teaching, Education and Research is excited to offer their SCRI Summer Scholars Program. The goal of the program is to provide undergraduate students with a background that is historically underrepresented in the biomedical and health sciences an opportunity to engage in basic, clinical and/or translational research projects during the summer at Seattle Children’s Research Institute under the mentorship of experienced researchers and principal investigators.

Students will:

  • Gain real-world lab experience, such as enrolling patients in studies, pipetting, using lab equipment, analyzing data and learning research methodologies
  • Attend career and professional training sessions, including crafting an effective LinkedIn profile
  • Build mentor relationships
  • Shadow physicians and other health care professionals
  • Write and publish an abstract for the program final report

Interns will receive $20 an hour for 40 hours per week and receive transportation and food stipends. Up to 30 hours per week will be dedicated toward research. The remaining 10 hours per week will be dedicated to the professional development of the student, including time to write and edit their research abstract and attend career and professional development sessions. The program will last up to 10 weeks.

The program will culminate with each intern publishing an abstract of their research project in the internship’s Program Report.

Scholars in the program will be offered travel and housing, and they will work with you to determine your needs and offer assistance as possible.
