Top 10 companies for diversity, according to BIPOC employees (Shared Article from BenefitNews.com)

By Paola Peralta

In order to enact real change, diversity, equality and inclusion need to be more than just buzzwords to business leaders.

Nationally, 850,000 jobs were added to the market in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Yet unemployment rates for minorities remains disproportionately high — Black and Hispanic workers still hold the highest unemployment rates at 9.2% and 7.4%, respectively, compared to 5.2% for white workers. DEI may be trending, but there’s still plenty of work to be done.

The first step to bridging the equity gap is for companies — and most importantly, their leaders — to prioritize their BIPOC employees.

“This past year shined a vital spotlight on racial inequities,” said Comparably CEO Jason Nazar in a press release. “When we first released Best CEOs for Diversity, our intention was to provide transparency on how employees of color rated their chief executives.”

The good news? Many companies are putting in the work. In fact, 91% of employers have active DEI programs, according to a report by the Josh Bersin Academy, an HR analytics firm. And on the recruiting front, job postings for DEI leadership roles are steadily increasing.

Company monitoring site Comparably released a comprehensive list of organizations prioritizing diversity. Every CEO that made the list is in the top 5% of all CEOs rated by diverse employees of color.

“This year’s list [is an] incredible group of leaders who are committed to implementing DEI in their organizations,” Nazar said in the release.
