My name Norman Workman, I'm currently the Senior Technical Recruiter at a company in Northern Virginia, working in the public sector. I'm also the Veteran Outreach Coordinator as well. Basically I find people in the IT profession, or sometimes the program managers, or other administrative people that support them, out on government contracts, so, systems engineers, systems administrators, software engineers, help desk technicians, the whole gamut, runs from level one right up to level five, as we say in our industry. So what we get is called the LCAT, or the Labor Category from Uncle Sam, we look at the required and desired aspects of that, we boil that down a little bit, and make it more legible, and then post those positions. So then we, as people apply, or if... And sometimes we have a very hard to fill position, we have to go out and source, go out on the job boards, et cetera, or LinkedIn, things of that nature, social media, and actually recruit, that's the true part of head-hunting. Other times we get well-qualified applicants, we screen them, we rack and stack 'em, we start to schedule phone screens with them, and then continue the refining process, and then present them to the hiring managers, start the interview process. And, whoever they want as the finalist, we make the contingent offers to, and negotiate the salary, start dates, get 'em through the security clearance process, the whole nine yards. And then help onboard them with HR once their start date is confirmed. I just had one that took 18 months from conception and submitting the bid to the award, so... And then you gotta hope the people are still there, and maybe start it all over again, right? So, it can be frustrating at times, but it's very rewarding when you find the right person the right job and you help them with their career, and two or three years later they call and they're still thanking you for helping them identify that position they might not otherwise have identified for themselves, so, very rewarding, can't put a price on that.
