College graduates with physical (mobility, orthopedic, visual and/or hearing) disabilities are significantly under-employed despite the talent, motivation, and ability to pursue careers related to their majors. Growing numbers of employers appreciate the positive impact that disabled employees have on a diverse workplace culture. Still, many career services professionals and campus recruiters lack clear information about relatively easy ways to embed accessibility practices – and a welcoming spirit – into their recruitment, onboarding, and management activities. The presenters have coordinated paid internships and career development for hundreds of physically disabled college students with physical disabilities in the Midwest. They partner with over 40 employers to do this work.
