I think being mindful as a student of a person in a full-time role, career, family, any number of other things, just being as respectful as possible. I really, really appreciate and am more likely to get back to someone that's a total cold call if there's acknowledgement of my time, the amount of time I may or may not have to give, and giving a couple different options. Reaching out, "I know this is a long shot. "I've followed your career." Giving some level of I've done my research, letting the person know you would absolutely be thrilled to get on a phone call, but realize that might be a lot, "Would you be willing to me sending "you a couple questions by email?" Sort of leaving that open, I've always appreciated, and I'm more likely to try to carve out some time if I feel like there's been some dilligence done.
