Employer View: Long-Term Benefits of Informational Interviews

Transcript

>> Informational interviewing is so important and it really is about setting up those contacts so when you do need that job really, really you've already made that introduction and you're not cold calling someone when you really have to get that job. By setting up the informational interview even though there's not a position you're necessarily applying for you have now put yourself on that person's radar and when positions do become available, I'll give you a perfect example. We have an internship program here and through, actually through Drexel Co-ops and this intern, this co-op who I met two, three years ago he graduated and is working somewhere else but what happened was because he had informational interviews with me I knew what his interests were and someone sent me a position here at ComCast that is tailor-made for him and so I reached out to him and said, "Hey, are you interested? Why don't you apply online?" And as a result he's one of the candidates for this position but that only happened because he did the informational interview, put himself on my radar and made an impression, made a positive impression and as a result I was able to reach back out to him.
