>> So how do you ask someone to be your mentor? This is probably a request that's best made in person. So send them a note, see if they'll grab coffee or lunch with you. First, you want to tell them why you want a mentor and what you hope to get out of it. Then, tell them the qualities that you're looking for in a mentor. And, finally, flatter them a little bit. Make this part good. Tell them why you've come to them. If they decline, don't be offended. It's not personal. Mentorship should be taken seriously and requires a commitment of time. Some professionals are just too busy. But, if they do say yes, make sure you show gratitude and enthusiasm about the newly formed bond.
