Post a Job or Internship – Campus Departments
To post jobs or internships you’ll need to create an Employer account on Handshake, our centralized job and internship platform. This service is available to campus employers completely free of charge!
To get started, follow the steps below to create your employer user account, join or create your department account, and start posting opportunities for students:
1. Open an incognito (private) browser to avoid creating a student account
2. Navigate to the employer account creation page by right-clicking and copying the following link and then pasting it into the incognito browser: Handshake New Employer Registration
3. Sign-Up for Handshake. Complete the sign up information using:
- Your name
- Your ‘@uw.edu‘ email address (required to post jobs as an On- Campus Employer)
- Password
4. Click Create Account and you will receive a message prompting you to verify your email address.

Please Note: If the email address you are using is already connected to a student account in Handshake, a gold banner will appear below the email address field with a message that your email already exists in Handshake and is associated with an early talent account. This is expected.
- If you forgot your password, click Reset it in the yellow banner, then returnto https://app.joinhandshake.com/employer_registrations/new to complete registration.
- If you remember your password, check that the email address, first name, last name, and password match your existing Handshake account, then click Create account again. You may have to click the create account button multiple times.

5. Verify Your Email. Once you’ve received the verification email, copy the hyperlink in the ‘Confirm Email’ button and paste into the incognito browser to verify the account.
Email verification links are active for 12 hours after they are sent. If you don’t receive a confirmation email, see Troubleshooting a Missing Confirmation Email.

6. Complete Your Profile. After you confirm your email, complete your profile. Required fields include:
- Your job title
- Types of Job Candidates You’re Looking For
- Your Phone number
- Your Alma Mater (Optional)
- Select No to answer the question about Third-Party Recruiting
Click Continue to finish your account set up.

7. Connect with Your Department. Now that you are a employer in Handshake, you’ll need to connect yourself with your department, called companies on Handshake. Most departments will already have an account.
- Begin typing the name of your department in the search box using “UW” or University of Washington” to display a list of names. It can sometimes take a few seconds for the drop-down to populate with department names
- Once you locate your department, click Request to Join. The account owner will be alerted and respond to your request.
- If you cannot find your department OR do not receive a response to your request to connect, email handshake@uw.edu to request a connection.

Posting On-Campus Opportunities
Once you are connected to the University of Washington, you can log into your Handshake employer account and begin posting on-campus jobs immediately.
If you are posting on-campus jobs for students, please categorize them as “on-campus student employment” rather than “job” or “internship” to make it easier for students to find on-campus opportunities.
UWHR requires all UW departments posting jobs or internships to include this tagline as part of every job description:
University of Washington is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information.
The University of Washington prohibits sex discrimination and sex-based harassment in any education program or activity that it operates. Individuals may report concerns, make complaints, or direct inquiries to the Title IX Coordinator. The UW Title IX Notice includes more information.
The University of Washington is committed to providing access and reasonable accommodation in its services, programs, activities, education and employment for individuals with disabilities. To request disability accommodation in the application process, contact the Disability Services Office at least ten days in advance at: 206.543.6450/V, 206.543.6452/TTY, 206.685.7264 (FAX).

Moving to a New UW Department
If you’ve moved to a different UW Department, you can take your employer account in Handshake with you. Follow the instructions for Leaving a Company in Handshake and then connect to your new department by following the steps outlined in Connect with Your Department above. If you need assistance, please email handshake@uw.edu.
On-Campus Employer Login
**An important note about logging in to Handshake with your employer account**
UW staff with employer user accounts CANNOT log in with the “UW NetID Login” button on the Handshake page, unfortunately, as that is just for students. Instead, staff will need to log in with their UW email addresses with the hyperlink/button below the NetID button.

If you have any additional questions about the platform, please feel free to email our team at handshake@uw.edu.
