Hiring International Students
UW International Student Services (ISS) is the subject matter expert when it comes to hiring international students for jobs and internships. If you have any questions about international student eligibility or the hiring process, please use the Contact ISS Form on their website.
Typically, international students are eligible for on-campus employment in a job or internship, though their eligibility is dependent on their visa type and status. The ISS website is written as a student resource and you can find more information, or refer student applicants, to the following pages:
- F-1 Employment Options (On-Campus, CPT, OPT)
- J-1 and J-2 Options
- Issuing a Social Security Number
Off-Campus Employers or Full-Time Hiring
For off-campus employers, or UW departments hiring international students who are recent graduates, you can view the Career & Internship Center handout What Employers Should Know About Hiring International Students, or review the ISS Employer Letter which details more about this process.
