Don’t Think Too Much About the Future and Compare Yourself to Others

My advice to UW students is to not fixate too much on the future and compare where you are to where your peers are. I spent a lot of time worrying about where I might end up a year or two or three years ahead of where I was, when I really should’ve focused on my current skills and how to improve myself for me, not for anyone else. I always felt I should’ve followed a certain path in life, especially in college when a lot of people at least give the illusion of knowing what they want to do. However, I believe I’ve ended up where I’m meant to be, and by focusing on my own happiness, rather than what other people might expect of me, I’ve learned to be much happier and satisfied with myself, while also focusing on living in the present!
