Understanding Different Perspectives and Experiences
I suggest not only talking to a lot of people, but talk to a lot of different kinds of people. First, it is helpful to understand a diverse set of experiences so you can understand the vast amount of possibilities there are. Second, no one person is going to have the exact same values, goals, wants, etc. as you so talking to many different people helps you to find the right kind of advice to YOU. If you are trying to decide if a certain path is right for you, or are torn between two pathways, talk to people who experienced both so you can understand both sides of the spectrum.
