You Never Know Who Might Be Able to Help You
Quant trading is notorious for being difficult to “break into”. The main target schools are Ivy League/other top east coast universities, so I needed some other way to stand apart. Fortunately, I had a high school cross country teammate whom I was able to reach out to that referred me for my first internship, and off of that was able to get my current job. Even though it might seem scary/awkward to reach out to someone you don’t know that well for a referral, the positives far outweigh the negatives – the worst that can happen is they say no.
