Teaching Assistant for TECHIN 540: Integrated Launch Studio I

The interdisciplinary degree program, Master of Science in Technology Innovation (MSTI) is looking for an excellent teaching assistant with an interest in innovation. We are seeking a teaching assistant to support our upcoming autumn quarter course, TECHIN 540: Integrated Launch Studio 1.
In this four-credit studio course, students will work in teams of 3-4 students with guidance from Industry sponsors and mentors to plan and execute the front-end phases of a comprehensive MSTI Launch Project. Teams will conduct background investigation and analysis, frame an actionable understanding of the problem, identify stakeholder needs and business constraints, and explore potential technology platforms in order to begin to develop a solution proposal and early functional/technical prototype. This course is the first in a two-quarter course sequence that will culminate in the development of a technology-based solution proposal and demonstration that can be considered for potential commercialization through external funding or acquisition, or further development.
The course will meet in-person twice a week at the Microsoft Redmond campus in Building 92, where GIX is located.
This position is looking for 2 Reader Graders.
Each Reader Grader position will have a maximum of 15 hours/week.
Your specific responsibilities will be outlined by the course instructor(s) prior to the start of the quarter. Responsibilities may include some or all of the following duties: conduct project team meetings, grade assignments, maintain grading records, prepare and maintain course attendance records, calculate quarter grades, attend lectures, hold regular office hours, review student budgets, tutor students, manage and respond to course-related communications (via email, Microsoft Teams, discussion sites, etc.), assist in preparation and maintenance of Canvas site for course materials, attend instructor/RG meetings as needed, act as liaison between students and instructor.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience and familiarity with design thinking and human-centered design methods, user research, and/or business/entrepreneurship.
- Experience with UW Canvas Learning Management System
- At least one of:
- Experience with embedded systems and cloud databases
- Arduino, Raspberry Pi
- User Research Methodologies
Preferred qualifications:
- Familiarity with or interest in emerging technologies (AR, VR, MR; Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Data Science)
- Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative user research methods
- Strong computer programming (CSE 142 or CSE 143) or equivalent
- Enjoy tutoring students and helping students to excel in any of the following areas: user centered design, computer science, engineering, ideation, human robot interaction, hardware and/or software development, robotics.
- Experience in working with international students.
- Excellent communication, technology, and design skills
Pay is $25/hour.
