SAAS (Student-Athlete Academic Services), housed within the Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) Department at the University of Washington, offers tutoring to student-athletes.
Tutors provide supplemental instruction in support of regular classroom engagement through one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions. Tutoring sessions might include clarifying content, discussing readings, exam reviews, etc.
Schedules and hours are based on subject area and student need/demand. Tutors must be available to work a minimum of 4-6 hours a week between the hours of 9 am. – 8 pm. , with at least one 2-hour evening shift (approximately 6-8 pm.) Shifts are both in-person and virtual, with most tutors working a combination of the two modalities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Tutoring and Academic Skill Development (85%)
- Provide subject-specific academic support to students.
- Create a professional and welcoming environment for all students.
- Have the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
Administration and Compliance (15%)
- Communicate regularly and effectively with the Tutorial Coordinator.
- Respond promptly to all administrative duties, including but not limited to, tutor session notes, emails, and timesheets.
- Participate in all mandatory training sessions as assigned by the Tutorial Coordinator.
- Willingness to learn, receive feedback and work as a team member with other tutors and SAAS staff.
- Maintain high standards of ethical conduct.
- Uphold all UW, ICA, and NCAA rules.
