We are seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Accounting Specialist to join our accounting team. In this role, you will collaborate with a team to ensure timely and accurate completion of the financial close process. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring that financial statements comply with accounting practices prescribed by the California Department of Insurance (CDI) and maintaining appropriate internal controls.
The position may have an option to work from home and is subject to changes based on State Fund guidelines and business needs. This position may be located in Glendale, Pleasanton, Riverside, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Ana, Stockton or Vacaville.
In this role, the incumbent will:
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing tasks, including preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, resolving discrepancies, and producing financial statements and relevant reports within stringent deadlines
- Provide variance analysis and financial insights for executive teams
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual CDI financial statement filings
- Document and maintain accounting processes, procedures, memos, and guidelines
- Collaborate with external and internal auditors to ensure timely delivery of requested information
The ideal candidate will have the following qualities and skills:
- CPA certification with a strong background in public accounting preferred; insurance accounting knowledge is a plus
- Ability to multi-task and manage priorities to meet non-negotiable deadlines
- Detailed-oriented with a strong sense of urgency
- A collaborative team player
- Experience with Oracle ERP is a plus
Educational Requirements
1. Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting; or
2. Completion of the equivalent of 45 semester units given by a collegiate-grade residence or correspondence institution, of which 24 units must include courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, intermediate/advanced accounting, fund/governmental accounting, cost accounting, auditing, business law, computer applications/management information systems.

SALARY: $6,430.00 – $8,049.00 per month depending on experience
