Dr. Alex Prybutok and Benjamin Hornburg are looking for an undergraduate chemical engineering student to support the organization and renovation of the Unit Operations (UO) lab (BNS 035). This position is a great opportunity for students to learn about chemical management, equipment maintenance and recycling, and accessible lab design. While this is not a position in a research lab, the student hire will learn hands-on skills that are fundamental to real-world laboratory and industry settings.
The primary focus of this position is to prepare the lab for installation of new equipment and experiments. Dr. Prybutok will supervise and work with the student in learning chemical and waste management, equipment cleaning, and storage/organization. Benjamin Hornburg will supervise and work with the student on all facilities and equipment management and renovation, including teardown and recycling of outdated experiments, maintenance of existing equipment, and any other facilities-related support.
After outdated equipment is removed from the lab, Dr. Prybutok will also supervise and work with the student on researching aspects of accessible lab design that can be implemented in the redesign of the UO lab. This will involve initial research, purchasing of accessible devices, and planning design of and budgeting for accessible facilities design.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Current undergraduate chemical engineering student
- Ability to lift 20 lbs

This position is for autumn quarter with the possibility to extended on a quarterly basis. It is set to start as soon as filled.
Pay rate: $19.97 per hour
Hours: Up to 10 hours per week; generally flexible work schedule
