Environmental Educator
The Environmental Education team is looking to hire two Environmental Educators to teach nature programing for audiences of all ages.
Looking for an enthusiastic and engaging educator with knowledge of PNW flora and fauna to assist our team. The person hired in this position will assist the school program coordinator and the environmental education supervisor by working with volunteers and teaching school and public programs.
This position will assist with and teach programing in parks all over the city and will be a part time position with an estimated 5-20 hours per week depending on programing needs.

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) manages over 485 parks – a 6,400-acre park system covering about 12% of the total land area of Seattle. This ARC position will be working alongside and supporting SPR educators on the Environmental Education Team that run programing in many of these parks.
Pay Range: $23.00- $23.96
Location: Discovery Park
Environmental Educator Responsibilities and Duties include the following:
Offer outdoor nature programs for SPS K-5th grade classes and activate parks by offering public nature programs for families.
Assist in the development and delivery of special events and custom programs as needed.
Take on special job duties and small projects as assigned.
Care and Safety
Maintain a safe, friendly and fun learning environment.
Able to supervise up to 20 kids at a time with minimal support or supervision.
Serve as a positive role model for kids and families and use positive behavior guidance strategies.
Environmental Educator Minimum Qualifications:
One year experience teaching all ages in the outdoors.
One year of college level education, preferably with course work in the natural sciences and/or education;
Demonstrated experience working with families, community members and partners to foster positive relationships;
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
Desired Qualifications:
6 months experience developing nature based programs and curriculum for outdoor environmental programs.
Relevant experience working with diverse age groups, from youth to adult
Knowledge of Pacific NW forest ecology and local flora/ fauna and their interrelationships and the impacts from humans on the natural environment
Ability to make connections between the urban and natural environment and make current critical environmental issues relevant to diverse audiences
Certification from the National Association of Interpretation or a WA Teaching Certificate
Ability to demonstrate good judgment and maintain safety among program participants in an outdoor setting.
Bilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, East African languages, Chinese or Vietnamese
Environmental Educator Work Environment/Physical Demands:
During nature walks and park activities, naturalists spend long periods of time standing or walking in all types of weather conditions.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Environmental Educator License, Certification and Other Requirements:
Current valid State of Washington driver’s license
First aid and CPR certificate within six months of hire.
If hired, must pass criminal background check, provide proof of eligibility to work in the US and sign up for direct deposit with either checking or savings account.
