Here are some tips to get you started!
Step 1 – Identify potential careers with:
- The Student Career Outcomes resource. Select your degree and scroll down to “Job Titles”
- Take the PathwayU Assessment to see career options from your values and interests
Step 2 – Create a list of interesting careers to investigate! Use these resources to find out more about each career:
- U.S. Bureau of Labor Statics: Occupational Outlook Handbook
- ONet
- Google: What does (Job Title) do Indeed (this will show you Indeed’s view’s of the career)
Tip: Consider organizing your thoughts in a spreadsheet!
Step 3 – Reflect on your past experiences to realize your current accomplishments:
- What are some of my favorite experiences (work, internships, volunteering, student organizations)? Why did I enjoy them?
- What skills did I gain from those experiences (leadership, ethical/cultural awareness, C++, organization, etc.)?
- What are some items that I did not like from those experiences?
Step 4 – Connect your research to your experiences to find how you need to grow
- If you are missing certain skills, where can you gain them:
- On Campus/Off Campus employment
- Internships
- Research
- Volunteering
- Student organizations
- LinkedIn Learning – FREE courses
