This is a great opportunity for those looking to strengthen their pre-health graduate applications with volunteer experiences, or for simply wanting to increase your leadership + community engagement skills.
About Camp GoodTimes: When cancer becomes their world, The Goodtimes Project creates caring spaces for local families to connect and kids to be kids, through camps, events, and programs. We serve families throughout Western Washington and Alaska with a goal of providing cost-free programming to help them reconnect with a world beyond their diagnosis.
Volunteer Description: Are you prepared for the time of your life? Donate your time and your laughter and make camp all it can be. We’re looking for individuals who are friendly, trustworthy, dedicated, and caring to donate 9 days of their time to being on staff at Camp Goodtimes, a no-cost camp for kids impacted by childhood cancer. The campers who attend this camp, and whom you’d be caring for, include active cancer patients, patients off treatment, survivors, and siblings ages 8–17.
What you get in return is priceless. We take the job of caring for medically and emotionally fragile campers seriously, but we smile, laugh, and learn every day. Each camp session, we need ~70 individuals to join us in making it a week to remember for approximately 110 campers.
Requirements: Looking for compassionate, responsible, trustworthy, empathetic, and joyful people age 18+. No experience working with kids with cancer needed (we have an onsite medical staff for all health concerns), but the ability to put campers’ needs first and the desire to make it a week to remember are required.
Job positions include: cabin counselor, cabin support staff, activities staff, nurses, arts and crafts, and muscle staff (logistics). Volunteers are expected to be at camp for the entire nine days of the session.
1. June session= June 23-July 1, 2023
2. July session= July 14-22, 2023
Location: Vashon Island, WA (Camp Goodtimes uses the facilities of Camp Burton on Vashon)
