Volunteers Around the World medical and global health trips

Volunteers Around the World – University of Washington Chapter is affiliated with a national humanitarian organization that works with local professionals and community leaders in developing countries. The UW chapter has two outreach types—medical and global health, each with unique projects best suited for particular locations around the world.

They focus on educating about the reality of health disparities, thereby taking action to relieve the burden of disease by training interns for a 2-week intensive trip out-of-country where they will enhance community infrastructure, provide access to advanced health initiatives, and explore a new culture.

They are currently recruiting for a winter 2021 trip. You will have an option to choose a medical or global health trip.

Global Health

As a team member, you will work with local families on projects to implement sustainable healthy living solutions. Projects include planting gardens and compost boxes to strengthen nutritional security, recycling water by building filtration systems, and constructing latrines for proper waste disposal. You will have free days to explore the new country and immerse yourself in the culture.

As a team member, you will have the opportunity to shadow medical professionals, work side by side with experienced doctors, perform triage, manage the pharmacy, and teach public health classes to children or teenagers. You will also have free time to travel in the host country. They are looking for committed participants who will go above and beyond to make this a memorable experience for everyone involved.
