UW to Launch State’s First Justice-focused Computer Science Teaching Endorsement with NSF Grant (Shared article from UW College of Education – Communications & Marketing)

Looking for a way to balance interest in justice, education AND tech? You may soon be able to. UW is getting ready to launch the state of Washington’s first justice-focused computer science teaching endorsement with the assistance of an NSF grant. The program builds from the idea of reconstructing curriculum with justice in mind. As the article written by UW College of Education’s Marketing and Communication team notes, “The grant will support UW researchers as they partner with practicing teachers to write a new, justice-focused computer science curriculum that reframes computer science content knowledge in the Computer Science Teachers Association standards in justice terms. The team also will co-design four new teacher education courses on computer science teaching methods, assessment, justice and equity, and a teaching field experience. Throughout, the research team will investigate changes in teachers’ critical consciousness of computing and society, and how their own changes influence their choices in the classroom.” Care to learn more?
