Internship Corner – Maximizing Your Summer Experience

It’s hard to believe we’re already in week 3 of summer quarter! For folks who have settled into their summer internships, here are some ideas to consider for maximizing your experience.

  • Set Goals – If you haven’t already done so, create learning goals with your supervisor that you hope to accomplish by the end of the summer. You can learn more about creating learning goals on our website here.
  • Make Connections – Try to schedule a few conversations with other folks working at your internship site. The goal of these “coffee chats” or “informational interviews” (done virtually if needed) is to learn more about what it’s like to work at your organization and build connections with colleagues outside of your supervisor or immediate team.
  • Ask Questions – The purpose of an internship is for you to learn, and the best way to do that is by asking questions. Here’s a short video of former student interns and employers talking about the importance of asking questions.

You can see more information about how to maximize more your internship experience on our website. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to schedule an appointment to talk about them with one of our career coaches.
