Ace your virtual interview

Virtual interviews are increasingly common. Companies such as Google, Amazon, Nordstrom, Starbucks and many others conduct virtual interviews for some of their opportunities, so there is a chance you’ll encounter this type of interview as you go through the job search process.

There are two main types of virtual interviews:

  1. LIVE VIDEO INTERVIEWS: These interviews are conducted in real-time, and are similar to in-person interviews. The interview is conducted over a video chat platform such as Skype.
  2. ONE-WAY /RECORDED VIDEO INTERVIEWS: Companies send you a link to an interviewing platform where you record your answers to pre-arranged questions. You are not interacting with an interviewer, instead your responses are reviewed at a later time by the hiring team. Recorded video interviews are common in early stages of the interview process, but can be used at any time.

While much of the preparation for virtual interviews will be the same as for in-person interviews, there are some additional things to think about and unique ways to prepare. Check out our Ace Your Virtual Interview handout to learn more!
